Phillip Murphy- Head Coach

 Coach Murphy is a Native of Birmingham, Alabama where he attended Homewood High School(Freshman-Junior) and graduated from PelhamHigh School in 1997.  Murphy lettered four years in Basketball and was a First Team All-Metro(Birmingham), All-County(Shelby) and All-State Basketball player.  He has resided in Mobile for the last 20 years and is a 2001 graduate of the University of Mobile where he earned a B.S. in Social-Science and secondary education.  Murphy lettered four years for the Rams where he holds the all-time win record of 100 wins and 40 losses... Tripp Cobb

Varsity Assistant

Coach Cobb was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. For elementary and middle school, he attended St. Pius X. In 2015, he graduated from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School. During his time playing Basketball at McGill(played for current head coach Phillip Murphy), Coach Cobb started games at both PG and SG while helping lead his team to an elite 8 and number one ranking in the state. In addition to playing Basketball, Coach Cobb was also a member of the football teams and baseball teams. Coach Cobb is also one of our Varsity Football assistant coaches.

Prior to returning home to McGill, Coach Cobb had stops coaching wide receivers at Opelika High School and running backs at Prattville High School. 

 



Heath Morley

Heath is a graduate of Cottage Hill Christian Academy class of 2021, where he was a member of the Varsity basketball team. He is currently enrolled and taking classes at Coastal Alabama South with plans to finish his degree in Secondary Education at the University of South Alabama. Heath two seasons assisting his Alma Mater and Varsity Head Coach Adam Thomas. Heath looks forward to his third year with the Yellow Jackets. Cole LaRue was born and raised in Mobile, AL. He attended school at St. Pius X for both elementary and middle school before joining the men’s basketball team at McGill Toolen where he played for head coach Phillip Murphy. After McGill, he began a successful Division 1 collegiate career at Kennesaw State University, guided by the late Amir Abdur-Rahim and University of Alabama legend Antoine Pettway. During his time at Kennesaw, he was actively involved in leading a range of youth and high school development camps. On the court, he played a key role in guiding his team to the school’s first conference championship, a historic March Madness appearance, and the best record in program history. Off the court, Cole earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and plans to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in the near future. His greatest win was marrying his high school sweetheart.  Coach Murphy, “ We are extremely excited and blessed to have Cole joining our staff. Cole obviously gives us a wealth of basketball knowledge but more importantly he possesses the character traits we want all of our coaches and players to have. Cole spent four years in our program and understands the importance of what it means to be a part of McT Hoops culture.”
